OBITUARY Mr W.A. Marshall

The death occurred at Wellington yesterday of Mr William A. Marshall, president of the Railway Superannuitants’ Society. Mr Marshall, who retired from the service of the Railways Department some years ago, was formerly chief goods clerk at Greymouth. Mrs Eda Davidson The death occurred this morning at Hokitika of Mrs Eda Davidson, widow of Mr George Davidson. Mrs Davidson was born in Hokitika and had resided there all her life. Her husband, who was one of the founders of Davidson’s foundry, predeceased her some years ago. Mrs Davidson is survived by one daughter, Mrs J. Michel, and one son. Hector (both of Hokitika) and one sister, Mrs C. Kay (Greymouth). The funeral will take place at Hokitika tomorrow afternoon. Mr Charles Gutberlet The death occurred suddenly at his residence at Twelve Mile yesterday of Mr Charles Gutberlet, aged 65 years. Mr Gutberlet, who was born at Akarqa, was a baker having learnt the trade from his father at Brunner, and he later worked in many West Coast towns including Greymouth, Ross, Hokitika and Runanga. At Ross he was a member of the Fire Brigade and a keen bandsman. .He had resided at Twelve Mile for the last .four years. Mr Gutberlet is survived by his wife and three sons, Charles and Jack Tom (Wallsend); one daughter, Mary (Runanga); three brothers, William (Chesterfield), Arthur (Dobson) and Walter (Taylorville) ; and three sisters, Mrs R. Christian (Johannesburg), Mrs J. Todd. (Taylorville) and Mrs W. Richardson. (Greymouth); and one grandchild. The funeral will take place at the Karoro cemetery tomorrow afternoon following a service at Sampson’s chapel.

The private funeral of Mrs Louisa Catherine Thomson, of Greymouth, took place at the Karoro cemetery this morning. The services at the residence and at the graveside were conducted by the Rev. K. G. Aubrey. The funeral-of Mr James McLean, of Greymouth, took place at the Karoro cemetery this afternoon. The Rev. T. G. Campbell conducted the services at Bellamy’s Chapel and at the graveside.
