OWNERSHIP OF PAMIR IS NOW DISPUTED
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Who will take charge of the barque Pamir now that the New Zealand Government has relinquished control is a matter of controversy. The former officer of the Pamir, Mr K. C. Liewendahl, has been authorised by cable by the former owner of the Pamir, Mr Gustav Erikson, of Mariehamn, Finland, to take care of his interests. However, a Marine Department spokesman pointed out that the barque is being returned to the Finnish Government and the Finns have not yet appointed an official agent in New Zealand. He added that Mr Erikson was not concerned in the matter, but the ship’s disposal was the prerogative of the Finnish Government, which would reply to the New Zealand Government through the New Zealand High Commissioner in London. Until this reply has' been received the Pamir would not be handed oyer. On the other hand Mr Liewendahl says he doubts if the Finnish. Government has anything to do with the Pampas, he said, the ship. belonged
to Mr <Erikson before it was commandeered in Wellington and it still belonged to Mr Erikson officially.
