GOLF SILK WINS THIRD ROUND TITLE MATCH
MELBOURNE, October 13. Thirty-seven points of rain in less than two hours this morning washed out play in the fourth round of the Australian amateur golf championship at the Metropolitan links, Melbourne. Twelve third-round matches were finished before the rain began, and B. M. Silk, the only New Zealander left in the tournament, won again. He beat E. D. Morton, 6 and 5. Eight fourth-round matches were in progress when heavy rain set in, and all had to be called off. The cancellation was the first in the history of the Australian Golf Union. When the 'union’s match committee decided to abandon play for the day. two representatives were sent by car to the sixth green and the players were called off as they came through. Some had gained an advantage of one or two holes over their opponents, but all agreed with the comxnittee’s decision. The most interesting third-round performances were those of Silk, who is considered one of the best equipped players at the meeting, A. H. Colledge, of Queensland, who had the best round of the day, and Peter Toogood, the young Tasmanian, who meets Silk tomorrow.
