AUCKLAND WHARF “SEAGULLS” PROTEST
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Allegations that men in 40-hour week jobs, including tramwatfmen and civil servants, are securing priority over “regulars” who depend mn waterfront work for a livelihood, are being made by “seagulls,” who report daily at the central wharf for engagement after all the union labour has been used. A deputation today interviewed Mr E. Buscke, manager cf the Auckland Shipping and Stevedores’ Association, and he undertook to refer the matter to the shipping companies. There are about 300 “seagulls” and they say an undertaking was given by the shipping companies to use them in preference to outsiders.
