SMALL MAJORITY IN FAVOUR OF CHURCH UNION
The poll conducted throughout the Westland Presbytery revealed that a small majority y/as i n favour of the proposed union of the Presbyterian, Methodist and Congregational Churches in New Zealand’. There are 803 on the roll in the Westland Presbytery.‘Of this number 301 voted in favour of the, union and 258 against it. ■ The scrutineers for the poll were Messrs R. Smith and L. F. Anderson. Cnly one informal vote was cast and there were 243 non-voters, made up as follows:— Central Westland Parish 20, Greymouth 68. Cobden 9, Hokitika 22, Kumara 3, Reefton 13, Totara Flat 19, Ross 24, Westport 39, Granity-Dennis-ten 26.
