School “Strike” Ends

(P.A.) WAIROA, This Day.

After being on “strike” since Thursday last, the pupils of the Mahia School resumed this morning. The “strike” was the result of a resolution carried by parents when a public meeting was held, at which it was pointed out that, although improved facilities were promised some years ago, nothing had been done to erect a new building. Twenty-five children are being taught in a room that is only 21ft by 9ft, and during wet weather the roof leaks.

Yesterday an assurance was received from the superintendent of schools, Auckland, that the required improvements would be carried out in time for the re-opening of the school in 1949. He also requested that the parents be urged to send their children to school. This has been agreed to.
