PROTEST MEETING ON PUBLIC SERVICE SALARIES

(P.A.) WELLINGTON. This Day. An unusually large attendance of public servants is expected to attend a meeting called for this evening to protest against delay in adjusting Public Service salary scales. The meeting will be held in the Wellington Town Hall, and already 2486 tickets have been issued. A special bus has been hired to bring Porirua members to the meeting and tentative arrangements are believed to be in train for the holding of an overflow meeting in the Concert Chamber. The president of the New Zealaiicl Public Service Association (Mr J. P. Lewin) will address the meeting and the following motion, recently endorsed by the Wellington section committee, will be discussed: ‘That this meeting expresses support for the executive officers in their action to secure an upward adjustment of Public Service salaries and that the section committee represent to the executive committee that the revised maximum for automatic promotion m the clerical division be £485 per annum, with provision for adequate margins for skill and responsibility and “that all other grades be proportionately increased.”
