Motorists Speak Out Against Communist Party

(P.A.) NELSON, This Day. Criticism 'of the Government’s action in granting a petrol licence to the Communist Party was expressed at a meeting of the Nelson Automobile Association. A motion was carried drawing the attention of the South Island Motor Union to the matter and suggesting that it should obtain the support of the North Island Motor Union in making a protest to the Acting Prime Minister, Mr Nash, and the Ministei' of Transport, Mr Hackett against “recognition in any shape oi’ form of the Communist Party.” “There is always talk about, the Communist Party and how it ought to be put down. This gives an opportunity of ranging ourselves on the side of democracy against Communism,” said Dr S. A. Gibbs. Mr C. M. Rout (President): What fools we are in Britain and the British Commonwealth to allow traitors in our midst to plan our downfall. To give the Communist Party official recognitoin and grant it a petrol licence is going too far. When a member expressed the oppinion that it was dangerous for the Automobile Association to dabble in such a matter, the president commented: “There is too much appeasement. As citizens we blame our leaders for not doing anything, but what do we do ourselves? It is right that as an association interested in the petrol position we should protest against giving petrol to people who could only be called traitors.” The motion was carried without dissent.
