Forty-four Whales Beached Forty-four small whales ’ swam in from the ocean today and deliberately beached themselves at Crescent Beach. Florida, in an apparent mass suicide. Most of the whales, which ranged from 7 feet to 14 feet died quickly as the rough surf rolled them over in the sand. Observers tried to drag back to water the few remaining alive—New York, October 7. “India Has Turned Corner” Mr Rajagopalachari, Governor-Gen-eral of India, when inaugurating the Employers’ State Insurance Corporation of India, said that India had turned the corner. He added that the settlement of the relationship between India and Hyderabad was really the last problem left unsolved. The insurance corporation was created by a new act to provide social security ultimately to 2,500,000 factory workers.— New Delhi, October 6.
