ATTEMPTED COUP IN SIAM FAILS

BANGKOK, Oct. 3.

The Siamese Prime Minister' (Marshal Pibul Songgram) said today that an attempted coup d’etat in Bangkok was an effort to stop the trial of the alleged murderers of King Ananda, and to bring back to power the former Prime Minister, Pridi Panomyong, the leading accused in the case.

Marshal Songgram revealed that Pridi Panomyong’s brother, Luang Arkthakit Kamchorn, a former Foreign Minister, was among 40 leaders of an anti-Government plot who were now in custody. Loyal forces this morning accepted the surrender of the leaders of the plot, who occupied the Siamese Defence Ministry last night, after a brief exchange of gunfire.
