WORLD COUNCIL OF CHURCHES FORMALLY SET UP AT ASSEMBLY
(Recd. 11.15 a.m.) AMSTERDAM, August 23. The World Council of Churches was formally constituted at the first busi- ' ness session of the council of the assembly. Dr t’Hooft, general secretary of the World Council of Churches, in a report expressed regret at the non-at-tendance of representatives of the Russian and Roman Catholic Churches. He said the Russian Orthodox Church had described the council as not being “concerned with unity, but with gaining political and social influence.''
