The Greymouth Competitions Society continued its 34th annual festival in the Wesley, St John’s and Columba halls today. OFFICIAL OPENING HELD LAST EVENING The Competitions Society continued its 34th annual festival yesterday afternoon and last evening. The standard of work was again good and the recalls, presented in the Wesley Hall last evening attracted a good audience. More than 1100 entries have been received. The festival was officially opened last evening by the Mayor, Mr F. F. Boustridge, who was introduced by the president of the society, Mr M. B. Charteris. Mr Boustridge paid a tribute to the founders of the organisation and to those who had carried it on through the years, adding that the large number of competitors argured well for the future of the society. The Mayor also paid a tribute to the judges, and wished them success in their work. It was on them that the artists depended for encouragement, he said. The competitions were continued in the Wesley, St John’s and Columba halls today.
