EFFECT OF EXCHANGE CUT ON N.Z. RACEHORSE INDUSTRY
(P.A.) AUCKLAND, This Day. Maurice McCarten, formerly one of the Dominion’s leading jockeys, is fast becoming Australia’s foremost trainer, according to Mr H. E. Tancred, vice-chairman of the Sydney Turf Club, who arrived in the Aorangi today to look over a lew horses. . , x . “Maurice has the biggest training stables in the country—but he is very loyal to New Zealand horses, he added. „ ~ Mr Tancred said the return of the New Zealand pound to par with sterling was likely to have serious repercussions on her racehorse breeding industry. “New Zealand horses were dear enough before, but to increase the price suddenly by 25 per cent, is to put them beyond reach,” he added. “There won’t be -so much buying.’
