Abattoir Building
Sir—l think the ratepayers have enough loans to pay off, and, seeing that we pay the second largest rates in New Zealand 1 think the abattoir can well be left where it is at present When I look at my rate demand there is nothing but “loan, loan, loan, loan,” on it, and so why should the council add more “loan” to burden us. If the abattoir building is in the road of the bowling gentlemen, well let them pay for its removal. —Yours, etc. SWEATED RATEPAYER. Greymouth, August 14. (“The proposal for a combined abattoirs on the West Coast has not reached the stage where finance has entered into it,” said the borough engineer (Mr A. J. Fairmaid) when the above letter was referred to him today. He added that so far only preliminary investigations had been made.—Editor, Evening Star).
