SKYWRITER IS ONE OF BEST YOUNG JUMPERS FOR YEARS

With three wins and a third placing in his four most recent starts over hurdles, Skywriter is headed for dress circle company as a jumper. On the second day of the Auckland meeting, carrying 9.11, he won the Panmure Hack Hurdles by three lengths from Our Gold, 9.6, with Montello d’Oro, 10.7, 12 lengths away. Raised to 9.12 on the third day, he won the Orakei Hurdle Race, this time from his stablemate, Morocco, 10.13, and Our Gold,, 9.11. the margins being two and four lengths respectively. Taken to Trentham, he made his record three in a row by winning the Trentham Hurdles with 9.5, by half a head from Boolamskee, 11.0, with Foxchase, 10.4, three lengths away. Boolamskee was leading at the last fence and was just caught. In the Winter Hurdles, Skywriter, 10.1, finished third to Corineus, 10.12, and Foxchase, 10.13, the margins being one length and six lengths. Skywriter nearly fell a round from home. Skywriter has 10.1 in the Grand National Hurdles and will meet Corineus on 111 b better terms and Foxchase on 41b better terms compared with what they carried in the Winter Hurdles. He should make a bold showing.

Promising Trotter The Auckland trotter Gold Horizon showed great promise during the past season to win three of his six races. A six-year-old by Quite Sure, he is out of Eyre, a Great Parrish mare, who produced the smart trotter Belcar. Gold Horizon should be in tighter classes before the season ends.

Consistent Mare A winner at the Auckland Club's matinee meeting last Saturday was Bessie Grattan, whose record last season wa.s two wins and five minor placings in 12 starts. Trained by C. Smith at Takanini. Bessie Grattan is by Josedale Grattan from Eyenew. by New Derby from Wink Eye, by Rey de Oro.

Like Father, Like Son J. McLennan, jun., who came into the limelight last season by driving Sprayman in five w’inning efforts at Alexandra Park and is now training in Auckland, has in his team Indianote. An aged daughter of Indianapolis and Princess Yenot, fndianote had 10 starts last season for three wins, one second, and two fourths. McLennan's father was one of the leading horsemen of his day, among the horses with whom he had many successes being the pacer Cello Sydney Wilkes and the trotter Money Spider. At the Metropolitan Cup meeting in the 1920-21 season he won four races with Cello Sydney Wilkes. Indian Wilkes

Driven by E. N. Kennerley. who trains him at Te Awamutu, Indian Wilkes attracted attention to his prospects when he won the First Hobsonville Handicap by three lengths from Cyone Man. which finished 10 lengths in front of Finale at the Auckland Trotting Club's meeting last Saturday. By Indianapolis, the winner of three New Zealand Cups, Indian Wilkes is out of a winner n Marina, which is a sister to Worthy Queen.
