FEAR OF UNREST IN SIAM: WARNING BY PRIME MINISTER
BANGKOK, August 11. The Siamese Prime Minister (Marshal Pibul Songgram) today warned the people of the likelihood of a sudden outbreak of internal unrest in the country. All leave for the military has been restricted in view of a possible emergency. The Prime Minister’s warning followed a broadcast appeal to the people for all-out co-operation with the Government in the maintenance of internal peace and security. In an obvious reference to the Communist trouble, he said: “I appeal to the people to refrain from .supporting any ideology which may lower the prestige of our nation and bring about chaos in the country.” Marshal Songgram said he had made the appeal because “terrorism and unrest in the surrounding countries were contributing somewhat to the tension in Siam.”
