COMMUNISTS IN AUSTRALIA SUPPORT MALAYAN INSURGENTS
SYDNEY, August 12. The Australian Communist Party made no apology for its support for the Malayans in their struggle for independence, said the general secretary of the party, Mr L. L. Sharkey, today. He added that just how this should be conducted was a matter foi the Malayan people, and not for Australian supporters. Mr Sharkey said that the Calcutta Communist Party conference did not discuss the Malaya uprising. Continuing the intensified terrorism in Johore, 30 armed Chinese last night killed two Chinese and a Malay special Constable on an estate two miles south of Kluang. The terrorists also burned down smokehouses, wrecked an estate office, and factory machinery. At the 'same time, another gang raided an estate at Palph, about fifteen miles north of Kluang, and wounded Malays and two Indians. They also burned down a factory and smokehouses, and took rifles.
