GOVERNMENT AND THE EMPIRE GAMES
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. At question time in the House of Representatives this morning, Mr W. W. Freer (Government. Mt Albert) gave notice of his intention to ask the Minister of Internal Affairs, Mr Parry, whether he would inform the House what responsibility the Government would accept for the staging of the 1950 British Empire Games in New Zealand and whether the Minister was in a position to advise the House if Auckland or Christchurch was favoured. Mr E. B. Corbett (Opposition, Egmont) gave notice to ask the Minister of Internal Affairs if urgent consideration would be given to the payment of a bounty on opossums destroyed. There was evidence of a serious extension of the menace in most parts of New Zealand and an i incentive to eliminate the pest was a .matter of urgency.
