OBITUARY Mr W.T. Pound

The death occurred last evening, following a long illness, of Mr William Thomas Pound, of Alexander terrace, Greymouth, aged 78 years. Mr Pound had been a patient at the Grey Hospital since the morning of July 18, when he had to be carried from a sick-bed, as the fire in the Workingmen’s Club building threatened to engulf his home. Mr Pound came to Greymouth from England 42 years ago and followed his trade as a bricklayer for many years, being engaged on the construction of many of the larger brick buildings in the town. He resided at Cobden for many years and for the past 12 years he had lived in Greymouth. He was a member of the Druids’ Lodge for over 40 years. He is survived by his wife, one son, Leonard (Wellington) and one daughter, Mrs G. F. Howes (Greymouth). He also leaves one brother and two sisters in England. The funeral will take place at the Karoro cemetery on Sunday afternoon. Mr Roland B. I*. Wicks The death occurred at Greymouth today of Mr Roland Bulmer Priestly Wicks, aged 54 years, schoolmaster at Taylorville school. He had been teaching at Taylorville for the past 20 months, having accepted an appointment there after teaching for the previous 10 years in schools in. the Pacific islands. He is survived by his wife, who resides in Christchurch.
