All Black Out of Action
Leo Connolly, the All Black front row forward, broke a bone in his ankle in a match at Invercargill a few weeks ago, and will not play again this season. This, in effect, spells the end of Connolly's hopes of consideration for the New Zealand team’s tour of South Africa in 1949. Connolly has represented either Southland or Otago regularly in big football during the past eight years and has played several times for the South Island. He first appeared for Southland in 1940, wore the maroon jersey again in 1941 and 1942, represented Otago in 1943-44-46 and played for Southland last year. He played in five games for New Zealand on the Australian tour last year.
