SCOPE OF HERITAGE MOVEMENT’S WORK TO BE EXTENDED

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The extension of the scope of Heritage to include various categories of needy children not previously provided for was warmly welcomed by the Governor-General (Sir Bernard Freyberg) speaking at the annual conference of Heritage held today at Government House'. His Excellency, who is patron of the movement, said he was glad Heritage was extending its services to work in the interests of the dependants of the ex-servicemen generally —ex-servicemen who suffered during the war. He was certain Heritage was on the right lines in this extension. In congratulating Heritage on a most busy and most useful year’s work .Sir Bernard said he was glad to see movement had exceeded its income. He could not believe that such an organisation would ever see its work stopped through lack of money. “I am sure no soldier from the Middle East wants anything that anybody else is not given,” said the Governor-General in the course of his address. He was referring to the conditions attaching to the Maadi Tent Fund, administered by Heritage, which at the request of the donors was to be devoted to assisting the children of deceased servicemen, who served in the Middle East. He noticed in the annual, report that of the money given Heritage from the funds, some £3500 was to be used for this purpose, said His Excellency. He added that he would be prepared personally to get in touch with the donors of the fund—the Maadi Recreation Tent Committee —and request them to waive the question of placing any sort of restriction on the use of the money.
