REEFTON RAILWAYS HANDLED HEAVY COAL TRAFFIC IN MARCH

REEFTON, This Day. ” The Railways Department carried out a heavy transport programme through the Reefton station yards during March, a total of 44,824 tons of coal being handled, in addition to ordinary goods traffic. The Buller coal consignments handled at Reefton totalled 34,151 tons, and the output from the Reefton coalfield was 10,673 tons. SEVEN-HOUR DAY The operation of the seven-hour day for underground workers at coal mines, commenced on the Reefton coal field yesterday. The new hours do not affect other mine workers who will work the usual eight-hour shift. To provide transport for underground workers from mines, bus services have been reorganised.
