DE GAULLE PARTY HAS STRONG LEAD IN ALGERIA

LONDON, April 5. The Paris correspondent of the British United Press says that with over half the votes counted de Gaulle candidates have gained a strong lead in the elections for the first Parliament of Algeria. They have won 22 of the 60 seats in the Upper House and other parties have won 13 No Communist candidate has been elected. Under the new statute for the territory, Algeria will have a Parliament of 120 members, half elected by French residents and the othei’ hall by Moslems. The new Parliament will not be independent. It can consider only its own budget and the adaptation of French laws to local conditions.
