GREY COMPETITIONS SOCIETY: SUCCESSFUL REVIVAL

The successful revival of the Greymouth Competitions Society after many years in recess is reported by the president, Mr M. B. Charteris, in his report to be presented at tonight s annual meeting of the society. Energetic work by members of various committees, he states, culminated in the presentation of the 33rd annua] festival. 1 With the Town Hall destroyed by fire, the committee was faced with finding an alternative venue, but the Hibernian, Methodist, and Presbyterian halls were placed at its disposal, and the Salvation Army Sunday school room was given as a dressingroom, states the report, which expressed appreciation of these arrangements. Entries for the various sections were only slightly show of those for the previous competitions in 1939, and angered well for ' the future. Financially the competitions were self-supporting, and the financial statement showed the new com mittee would have a small sum in hand. There was room for comment at the demonstration concew at tnc Lyceum Hall regarding the seatm* accommodation, and this year might be wise to consider holding the demonstration concert m the Regen Theatre, stated the report, which thanked the committee mempers an the secretary, Mr J.
