COURT WITNESSES ACCUSED OF DELIBERATE LIES
(P.A.) NAPIER, This Day. ‘T am most dissatisfied with the evidence of a number of the witnesses for both parties,” stated Mr H. Jen-ner-Wily S.M., in the Napier Magistrate’s Court this morning when delivering reserved judgment in favour of the plaintiff in a claim for £s(kspecial and £2OO general damages by William James Brunton, camp attendant, of Fernhill, against Hugh Kenneth McAlister, bushman of Hastings, on the grounds of assault. “I am of the opinion that several witnesses deliberately lied with the object of misleading the court” continued the Magistrate. “I have therefore handed the whole file to the superintendent of police for further investigation. Should the very serious charge of perjury be against any one or more of the witnesses,* then I will direct the police to take-the necessary action on criminal charges. “The claim arose from incidents occurring at a party on the night of November 7 of last year.
