N.Z. PARTY TO VISIT GALLIPOLI FOR ANZAC DAY SERVICE

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, April 4. A New Zealand delegation, in company with a delegation from Australia, will take part in a dawn service on Anzac Day at the site of the Anzac landing in Gallipoli. This, was announced by the Prime Minister (Mr P. Fraser) to-night. . Arrangements for the service had been made in consultation with the Government of Australia, Mr Fraser said. The two delegations will leave very shortly for Istanbul on their way to Gallipoli, where the itinerary provides that they will arrive not later than April 24. It is understood that United Kingdom servicemen will be represented at the ceremony by Air Chief Marshall Sir Arthur Longmore. The delegation to represent New Zealand has been selected in consultation with the executive of the Returned Services’ Association. It consists of Brigadier G. B. Parkinson, Army Liaison Officer and a member of the New Zealand Joint Service Liaison Staff, London, Mr E. G. Webber, the New Zealand Press Association’s representative in London, and Mr Cyril Bassett, V.C., who was the only New Zealand V.C. on Gallipoli. After the dawn service, members of both delegations will inspect all the war cemeteries and war memorials in the Gallipoli area, none of which has been visited for many _ An invitation has been extended to members of the New Zealand delegation to join, with the Australian delegation to proceed to Tobruk, where an Australian, memorial in the Tobiuk cemetery will be unveiled.
