FOOD-FOR-BRITAIN COMMITTEE “ADOPTS” ENGLISH CENTRE
Reporting on a conference of sec-retary-organisers held in Wellington recently, in connection with the Food-for-Britain Campaign, Mr H. O’Loughlin, at a meeting of the Greymouth committee, said that it had been impressed on those attending the conference that Britain was in a grave position. The conference urged that every effort be made to assist in this work. Committees could assist by collecting meat and butter coupons and also edible fats. The committee. decided that, until a verbatim report of the conference was received, no action would be taken.
The committee went into the question of appointing a secretary-organ-iser for the district. Mr R. Ware intimated that he was prepared to give a fortnight’s help in this direction. It was also decided, to “adopt” the city of Islington (England) which has a population of 320,000. Food parcels and fat will be sent for distribution. The Mayor, Mr F. F. Boustridge, presided and also present were Messrs H. C. Rowe, A. J. Fairmaid, O’Loughlin, R. Ware and Mesdames Kerr, Mathieson, Parfitt, Stewart, , and Miss Moffatt and the secretary, Mrs E.- L. Kehoe.
