Starring Laraine Day, Brian Aherne, Robert Mitchum, and Gene Raymond, the emotional saga revolves round the split personality of its heroine, Nancy Patton. An unfortunate childhood experience has given an otherwise lovely girl an irresistible impulse to steal jewels, and this kleptomania brings disaster to her Miss Day, in her depiction of the charming but conscienceless Nancy, has an exacting role in which she reveals innate artistry beyond anything she has hitherto disclosed. S T. PATRICK’S DAY The St. Patrick’s Day celebrations will commence with the Hibernian ball in the Sturge street hall, Cobden, tomorrow night. Modern and oldtime dance tunes will be provided by Steel’s orchestra. The bus arrangements from Runanga and Greymouth have already been advertised. The second function will be the annual Irish national concert in the Regent Theatre on Thursday. The guest artist will be Mrs Cara Cogswell of Christchurch, and formerly of Greymouth, and an excellent programme has been ananged. b On Saturday at noon, a procession preceded by the two local bands will leave the Hibernian Hall for the St. Patrick’s sports at Victoria Park. A varied programme of chopping, cycling athletics, women s marching, clay-bird shoot, baby show, schools and small children’s (under seven years) events, etc., will be conducted. Visiting cyclists from Nelson, ChristchurchT Hornby and Rangiora have nominated for the full programme. Afternoon tea and other refreshments will be obtainable on the ground.
