COUNT PLUNKETT DEAD, AGED 97

LONDON, March 13.

The death, has occurred of Count George Noble Plunkett, an hereditary Papal count, Irish author, and politician, who spent many terms in English and Irish prisons for his revolutionary activities. He was 97. Count Plunkett had a distinguished academic career. He was president of the Academy of Christian Art, vicepresident of the Catholic Poetry Society, a member of the Royal Irish Academy, a former president of the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland, an honorary associate of the Royal Institute of British Architects, and, a director of the National Museum of Science and Art, Dublin. He was also associated with many literary, antiquarian and philological organisations. He received a number of Papal honours for his work for the Catholic Church. He was a prolific author. He was member of the House of Commons for North Roscommon from 1917 to 1922, and for County Roscommon until 1927. He was at one time Eire Minister of Foreign Affairs and Fine Arts under the Dail.
