CYCLING P. DUFFY WINS AT VICTORIA PARK TRACK MEETING
A feature of the track meeting conducted by the Greymouth Cycling Club at Victoria Park on Saturday was the return to form shown by P. Duffy and Jenkins, a former amateur rider in England, who had been out of the sport for about 10 years. B. Wilson also rode well to win two of the boys’ races. Longley 3. Time 2.40. The first of a series of boys’ road races was run at Cobden yesterday. The result was as follows: K. Morgan 4 points 1; D. Boote 2 points 2; R. Longley 1 point 3. Morgan secured fastest time—Bmin 42sec for the three mile journey. There were eight starters. NX CHAMPIONSHIPS AT DUNEDIN ' (P.A.) DUNEDIN, March 14. In brilliant sunshine, the New Zealand amateur track cycling championships ended at the Caledonian ground on Saturday. Auckland won the championship shield, with 22 points, followed by Canterbury 14', Wellington 9, Otago 6, and West Coast, North Island 3. A. W. Stonex, of Auckland, proved himself the outstanding sprinter in the country by winning two final matches in the 500 metres sprint to take the sprint championship cup. The 10-mile senior paced championship produced a minor sensation. Lock won the title easily in the excellent time of 22min 57 2-ssec. Because he changed to another machine when he had trouble with his own bicycle with 27 laps to go, the New Zealand champion and record-holder F. T. Tredrea, of Auckland, was ordered to withdraw. At that stage Lock and Tredrea were riding together. Results: — 500 Metres Senior Sprint Championship.—The final placings were: — Stonex 1, Lock 2, Stewart 3. 10 Miles Senior Placed Championship.—L. P. Lock (Canterbury) 1, A. H. Allen (West Coast, North Island) 2, R. Harris (Otago) 3. Time, 22min 57 2-ssec. Five Miles Junior Paced Championship.—Hoffman (Otago) 1, G. Howes (Wellongton) 2, F. Bradshaw (Canterbury) 3. Time, llmin 39 3-ssec.
