LACK OF HOUSES HAMPERING SOLDIER SETTLEMENT

(P.A.) HASTINGS, This Day. “This meeting is of the opinion that an effort should be made to induce building contractors to build a greater proportion of houses in the country than is being done at present, even to the point of arranging for a priority of supplies for country work” was a resolution passed by ex-servicemen awaiting land settlement, at a Returned Servicemen’s Association meeting in Hastings. Concern recently has been expressed at the delays occurring in settling ex-servicemen on the land at R.S.A. land settlement meetings in various centres in Hawke’s Bay and the housing problem was again thoroughly discussed on Saturday.

Mr S. G. Jones, president of the Hastings branch said that the resolution was purely from the point of view of those awaiting settlement and was not intended to start any dispute between town and country ex-ser-vicemen.
