“It is amazingi for a fairly intelligent people to have to listen to such an account and not be able to do much.about it,” declared the secretary of the'Buller Progress League, Mr M. B. Scully, this week, when Mr W. Elliot made reference to the dredging position at Westport. The Marine Department possessed three dredges at Westport, said Mr Elliot, but one had been under repair for a month. It was in danger of being dumped at sea. Another was engaged at Wanganui, and the third could not work on the bar because of insufficient depth.
