Opera House

Tonight: “A Night in Casablanca," starring the Marx Brothers. The Marx Brothers who have endeared themselves to millions of picture fans all over the world with their delightful absurd antics have returned to the screen in the hilarious comedy riot “A Night in. Casablanca,” showing at the Opera House. ' The story is set in the post-war atmosphere of colourful Casablance, with a swank hotel as the centre of action. The inimitable Groucho is in charge of the modus operrandi, with the completely wacky assistance of brothers Harpo and Chico. The plot, if anything so amusingly contrived can be called a plot, concerns a ruthless group of Nazis masquerading as Dutch aristocrats who have smuggled the hidden European art treasures and jewels into the hotel prior to shipping them to ? South America hide-away. How the Marx Brothers foil this plot is something to make audiences roll in the proverbial aisles.

Regent Theatre

Tonight: “Night and Day,” starring Cary Grant, Alexis Smith, Monty Woolley. “Night and Day,” has an outstanding cast headed by co-stars Cary Grant and Alexis Smith and featuring Monty Woolley, Ginny Simms, Jane Wyman, Eve Arden, Carlos Ramirez, Donald Woods and Mary Martin. The play opens in 1914, with Cole Porter as a University student, having more success in music than in his studies for the law. He has an ardent backer in his musical efforts in Monty Woolley, law professor. Monty accompanies Cole to his home in Peru, California, where there is a family reunion. Here Cole meets Lina Lee, a kindred spirit, whom he eventually marries after a romantic reunion. After marriage, Cole devotes more time to musical comedy production than to his wife; indeed, she eventually feels so slighted that she leaves him and goes off to Europe unaccompanied. Meanwhile Cole goes from success to success and has a number of productions in America and London. Eventually he is badly hurt in falling from a horse, and undergoes a series of operations. Finally he recovers and his wife arrives back home for the inevitable reconciliation.
