AIRCRAFT SERVICES TO BE TAXED TO REFUND RAILWAYS
(Rec. 11.40 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The New South Wales Government has introduced a Bill to tax aircraft services operating in competition with railways. It will be similar to that imposed on motor vehicles competing with rail services. The object is to save the Railways Department a revenue loss estimated at more than £1,000,000 yearly. . Introducing the Bill, the Minister of Transport (Mr O’Sullivan) said that people who used”luxury travel when reasonable services were available by rail-would have to pay tax to compensate the railways in some small measure for the loss of revenue involved.
