COMMUNISM IN HOLLYWOOD: ACTOR’S EVIDENCE
WASHINGTON, October 22. Hundreds of onlookers, mostly sighing women,- crammed into the room of. the Un-American Activities Committee of the House of Representatives today to see and hear Robert Taylor, denounce Communism in. Hollywood. ' ' Taylpr told the committee' that he Had seen plenty of things “on the pink side” in Hollywood, and that Communist activities had increased during the last five years. Taylor, who said he had hated Communists for years, added: “I would fire every last one of them if I were in a position to do so.” The police had to escort Taylor out through a surging crowd. All the women onlookers, streamed out behind Taylor, and the next witness, Howard Rushmore, a New York journalist, testified before a roomful of men. , • ■ Rushmore said that Charles Chaplin and Edward G. Robinson were “sacred cows” of the Communist press. . „ , . , The playwright , Morris Ryskmd, declared that the Communists had complete control over the Hollywood Film Writers’ Guild, and “anyone would have to be a fool not to notice it.” -
