YACHT MAKES FAST TRIP FROM SUVA

(P.A.)) AUCKLAND, Oct. 14. Leaving Suva at midnight on Friday, October 3, the 38ft auxiliary ketch Barbary entered Tutukaka harbour, just north of Whangarei, at daylight this morning. At midnight last night the yacht was off the Hen and Chickens, but because of a strong head wind it was decided to run back to Tutukaka. Another reason was a leaky petrol tank. Because of the danger- of fire, cold meals were eaten on the last day. The voyage of 1180 miles was made in particularly good time, but the owner, Captain N. D. Matheson, considered. he could have made the voyage to Auckland in 10 days if it had not been for the blow when nearing the New Zealand coast. Head winds were encountered right throughout the trip. Two days off the New Zealand coast strong south and south-west winds were met. In spite of the head winds the auxiliary engine was not used to any extent. Captain Matheson said that the last few days were “pretty toughj’ but the yacht had proved a splendid sea boat and handled well.
