OLD. FOLK REQUIRE FOOD IN ENGLAND: NEED STRESSED

Food parcels being sent to large organisations or the civic authori-ties-in various towns in England, do not always reach the right people, declared a Greymouth resident who is visiting .the United Kingdom in a letter to Miss N. P. Moffatt, matron of the Grey Hospital, this week. She was stressing the ! need for people to send parcels direct to worthy cases, particularly old folk, and offered to provide addresses. : “While .you are ' busy with the Food-for-Britain] campaign, could you -say. something and try and get food to the. old people in this country;” ’ stated the letter.' “It is really the old people here who at the moment need your help. Some are alone and in other cases old couples are 1 living, together on -rations that are not nearly enough; Children and mothers get great priorities over here,” the writer adds.

’ “If you. can.get food sent to these old people, I will , do all I can to obtain ’ genuine addresses,”- continued the letter. "“I am sorry to say that the war has had- some- bad effects on'the character of some people, and parcels sent to . mayors and various largei' organisations are not being distributed ’ to the right people in -many cases.”.- . . ■ “I cannot stress too much the sad condition of some' of these old folk. If you. know how some live you would cry, and I know there must be someone willing to do something to help'them.” The writer forwarded the address of Mrs C. Coppin, 119 Upper Shirley road, Shirley, North Croydon, Surrey, England, as being a deserving case. _____
