GIVE STATE BALL AT PALACE

LN.Z.P.A. SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT] LONDON, October 13. The King will give a State ball at Buckingham Palace on the evening of November . 17, three days before Princess Elizabeth’s wedding. A thousand guests, including representatives of the Dominions are expected to attend.

The traditional ceremony of a Royal ball will be observed, with the King, the Queen, Princess Elizabeth, Lieutenant Mountbatten, and other members of the Royal Family walking in procession through the picture Gallery. On the following evening the King and Queen will give a private dinner party at the Palace for 60 guests, who will include members of- European royal houses' who are to attend the wedding. The buffet wedding breakfast will be restricted to fewer than 100 guests, comprising members of the Royal Family, foreign royalty, and intimate friends. The King will formally propose the health of the bride and groom. The Queen and the Princesses returned to London from Balmoral yesterday. Princess Elizabeth is remaining at Buckingham Palace until the wedding day. Princess Margaret Rose will fulfil her first major public engagement on Thursday when she launches the linei' “Edinburgh Castle” at Belfast.

Greymouth Co-operative Guild The fortnightly meeting of the Greymouth Co-operative Women’s Guild was held recently. Mrs Dixon presided over a good attendance. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect to the late Mr J. O’Brien and Mr McNeill. An interesting demonstration of making a work-basket was given by Mrs Herring. The wandering shilling competition was won by Mrs Bell. Lady Baden-Powell’s Visit

The World Chief Guide, Lady Baden-Powell, is not expected in New Zealand before the beginning of next year. She has arrived in Australia. During a press interview in Sydney she paid a tribute to the guides who gave their time, talent and energies during the wai; to the guide movement. Lady BadenPowell was wearing the blue “world uniform” of the Girl Guides.
