Speedy Margaret Logan

Margaret Logan, a half-sister by Grattan Loyal to Windsor Lass, trained and driven by the former Greymouth trainer, O. Quinlan,, showed brilliant. speed to win the second division of the Ikamatua Handicap. She took the lead with about four furlongs tb go and led into the straight from Active Service and Artful, with Patti Dale making up ground and Virginia Girl next. Margaret Logan coasted home well clear of Active Service, with Patti Dale a good third. Artful Was fourth, and then came Virginia Song and Kilkenny. Totalisa'tor: £1955.

Penalised 36 yards for her success earlier in the day Margaret Logan justified the public confidence with an impressive Win in the second division of the Cronadun Handicap. She was allowed to make up her ground gradually and at the halfmile had caught the leading bunch, which comprised Red Flight, Artful, My Hope and Loyal Velvet. Within the next furlong she had reached the front and she stayed on to win nicely by half a length from Red Flight, with Loyal Velvet, who finished well, a good third. Next to finish was Artful. Totalisa'tor: £l'7l3>.

Easy Win

Seacraft began smartly in the first division of the Ikamatua Handicap and Was well placed all the way. Approaching the straight Red Flight was piloting Index, Seacraft and My Hooe, all in close order. In the run home Seacraft had too much pace for Red Flight, and came on to win easily from Red Flight with My Hope a useful third. Index was fourth and the next to finish wei*e Lochdornie, Lucky Logan and Aristocrat. Patti Dale, trained at Greymouth by J. C. McClure, led all the way in the first division of the CrOnadun Handicap. She was followed into the straight by Kilkenny, who was challenging strongly, Aristocrat and Virginia Song. El d’Or was fourth and Virginia Song was next.

Desperate Finish

Active Service Was well placed all the way in tire Maruia Handicap and he finished strongly in the straight to beat the paCeinaker, Volodale, by a head in a desperate finish. Volodale. and Active Service soon sorted themselves out and Active Service finished the better to win narrowly. Auxiliary was a good third, two lengths away, with Dance Hall, who ran a:■ splendid, race, fight up fourth. Then came, Seacraft, who was .interfered with in the straight, and Gold Strike, who lost about 100 yards in the first i furlong. Lady.
