BALLOT TO BE HELD FOR SECRETARYSHIP OF TIMBER WORKERS

A ballot will be necessary to decide the position of secretary-treasurer of the Westland Timber Workers’ Union, two nominations, those of Messrs F. L. Turley (present secretary) and Mr J. Comport (Kumara), having been received for the position. Mr Turley has been secretary for many years. All the other official positions have been filled by the nomination of the required numbers and ballots will not be necessary. The nominations for the various positions were received as follows at the annual meeting of the union on Saturday:— President: Mr J. Reedy (Kumara); vice-president: Mr F. Rudkin (Kumara); secretary-treasurer: Mr J. Comport (Kumara), Mr F. L. Turley (present secretary); committee, northern district: Messrs J. Craig (Nelson Creek), H. Trouland (Haupiri), and D. C. Dudley (Nelson Creek); southern district: Messrs E. J. Johnston (Gladstone Siding), W. Lawrence (Kumara) and J. Guy (Mananui); council delegates: Messrs C. Elley, J. Comport, J. Reedy arid F. Rudkin; trustees: Messrs J. Comport and K. Ogilvie; auditor: Mr E. Souter; returning officer: iyir H. Robinson. A motion of condolence was passed with the relatives bf the late Minister of Transport (Mr. O’Brien) and with the Government, in its loss.
