CREW OF WRECKED TRAIN CHARGED

A sequel to the collision between two trains near , the Parnell overhead bridge on September 8 was the appearance in the Magistrate’s Court today of William James Wilde, aged 41, engine-driver, and Richard Bradford Steel, aged 20, fireman. Wilde was charged that, unlawfully and wilfully omitting to observe that the down main starter to the Newmarket signal was showing red, indicating danger, when leaving the Auckland Railway Station, he did endanger the safety of Andrew Parsons and other passengers who were being conveyed on the train. Wilde was also charged with causing actual bodily harm to Andrew Parsons in circumstances that if death had been caused he would have been guilty of manslaughter.
