J. Wade, the Auckland rider who the previous week had gained fastest time in the Timaru to Christchurch road race, put up another fine performance in Saturday when he rode the 135 miles from Christchurch to Waimate in shr 34min ssec, beating the previous record of shr 53min ssec made by C. R. Evans in 1941, by 19 minutes. Only a second behind Wade finished another back-marker in W. Whiston (Dunedin), L. Hubbard, receiving 6min from the back-mark-ers, recorded shr 40min lOsec. The winner of the race was G. Mackenzie (Ashburton), who received 56 minutes start. The other major places were also filled by men well out m the handicaps. . ■'
