Reuters says that Leslie Chipperfield, aged 24, a marine engineer, who spent £6OO in taking his wife and 10-year-old son to New Zealand in March, returned in the Waiwera. He got a job but no house. He said: “My advice to people thinking of emigrating to New Zealand is not to go unless they have somewhere to live before they get there. Small houses cost £2OOO. It is impossible to find a house to rent. I spent all my savings and have to begin all over again.”
