AUSTRIAN VIEW OF BLOCS IN EUROPE

Only through continued attacks by the opponents of the Marshall .Plan could any blbc be established in Europe, said the Austrian Foreign Minister, Dr Karl Gruber, in a broadcast. It would be suicide for any needy nation to reject the plan. The Russian censors tried to stop Dr Gruber from broadcasting. They first banned the speech but later passed it without alteration. The point in the speech to which the Russians are reported to have objected was: “There are no surplus food items in the Eastern European nations. It will be at least one year until there are.”
