Drastic Move at Buller Hospital

Because of the serious shortage of nurses at the Buller Hospital, the medical superintendent (Dr. D. R. Ryder) was given power by the Hospital Board at its monthly meeting esterday to decide what admissions are to be made to the institution. Dr Ryder said that at present there was only one sister on in the women’s ward and from October 1 it might be necessary to perform urgent operations only. He added that he would be very reluctant to take such drastic steps but the shortage of staff might offer no alternative.
