TABLE TENNIS PLAY IN DOMINION TOURNEY AT TIMARU

TIM AHU, September 3. By beating Hutt Valley by 10 games to 2, the South Canterbury mens team provided the biggest surprise m the second round of the mterassociation table tennis tournament which was begun at Timaru today in conjunction with the New, Zealand championships. Five mens teams and five women’s teams are taking part. The first two of the five rounds of the tournament/were played today, and at the conclusion of play tonight the Otago men’s team was in the lead, with two wins, while in the womens section Otago , and Wellington were equal, with two wins each. The tournament will be concluded on Friday morning. Play in the championships will begin tomorrow. Results of play today were:— Men. —First round: Wellington 8, Canterbury 4; Otago 11, Hutt Valley 1 Second round: South Cantebury 10, Hutt Valley 2; Otago 7, Welhngto Women.—First round: Wellington 11, Canterbury 1; Otago 10, Hutt Valley 2.
