LABOUR REJECTS COMMUNIST BID FOR AGREEMENT

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, This Day. Proposals from the Communist Party for an electoral agreement with Labour in the campaign for the municipal elections in November were rejected by the Wellington Labour representation Committee at a meeting last night. The proposals of the Communist Party were that the two organisations should reach an agreement about candidates or alternatively, that Labour should limit its ticket to 13 for the City Council and eleven for the Hospital Board, thus leaving two seats uncontested for which the Communist Party would put forward candidates. The acting secretary of the Labour Representation Committee, Mr F. C. Allerby, said last night that the committee after receiving the Communist Party’s letter unanimously adopted a resolution, firmly refusing to cooperate with the Communists in any way and declaring that a full Labour ticket would be run for all the local bodies involved.
