WELLINGTON TEAM TO PLAY RETURN GAME WITH COAST

The Wellington representative team, which was the only side to defeat the West Coast touring team, will play a return match at Greymouth this month. The executive of the West Coast Rugby League last evening received a telegram from Wellington suggesting that the game for the Northern Union Cup should be played at Greymouth on September 21 and decided to accept that date for the match. It was decided that the selectors should choose the West Coast players to take part in the match after next Sunday’s club games. Many requests were received from clubs to make visit? to outside districts and to entertain visiting teams, and were granted as follows:-— Marist, to play Linwood at Greymouth on September 14; Rapahoe, to play St Joseph’s at Christchurch on September 20 and Dallington at Rapahoe on September 27; Marist, to

Broome, T. Warren, and M. Moynihan (Hokitika), and T. F. McKenzie (secretary). faulted. It was eventually decided that the matter should be adjusted by the next Brunner-Runanga fixture being transferred to give Brunner a home game. It was decided that, wherever possible, clubs should accept the responsibility for providing transport for referees for the remainder of the season.

The Auckland League advised that in future inter-club games should be arranged through the respective boards of control and not by the clubs themselves.

The Hokitika Club forwarded a donation of £5 which had been received towards the fund to provide regular food parceles for members of the New Zealand team in England. The secretary reported that all. clubs with members in the team had been circularised on the matter and he hoped to have the scheme completed by the next meeting. The secretary presented a financial statement, showing that the total gross receipts from club matches up to August 31 amounted to £638 Bs, and that £298 would be refunded to clubs for the season. The Canterbury Rugby League wrote requesting that the Thacker Shield challenge game between Sydenham and Blackball should not be played until after September 20, as Jour Sydenham players were included in the Canterbury team to play Wellington and Auckland. Referee’s Ruling At last evening’s meeting of the executive of the West Coast Rugby League, Mr R. Blake (Ngahere) asked what was the position when two linesmen signalled a goal and the referee ruled “no goal.” The secretary (Mr T. F. McKenzie) said that the point had been discussed by the Referees’ Association and the ruling was that if the two linesmen put their flags up the referee had no option but to award a goal.
