BAN ON MID-WEEK RACING TO CONTINUE IN N.S.W.

CRec. 1 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. The New South Wales State Cabinet has decided to continue the ban on mid-week racing until January 1, 1949, and to forbid the holding of night trotting with betting. The question of allowing night trots wil’ be reconsidered early in 1949. It is understood that the Cabinet decision was largely influenced by the Premier, Mr McGirr, who strongly urged the continuance of the ban for as long as possible, because of the need to concentrate on the production of building materials. For some time, racing interests, including dog racing and night trotting, have been actively pushing their claims among State politicians, including Ministers. The original ban was imposed under the National Security Regulations, which will expire on September 30.
