(Rec. 10.25 a.m.) LONDON, September 2. The President of the Board of Trade, Sir Stafford Cripps, has informed the Newsprint Supply Company that it will be permitted to take up part of the newsprint due for delivery during the first half of 1948 under existing contracts with Canadian and Newfoundland suppliers. The company says the quantity permitted is 50,000 tons, which will permit the newspapers to continue their present basis of four pages with sales limited to the figure of June, 1947, until June 30, 1948.
